Travel

Travel and accommodation options for Switzerland, kindly put together by our Swiss Partner, Cuore Matto.

From Zurich Airport (ZRH) to Zurich Main Station (HB)

This is the quickest and most frequent connection.
By Train (Recommended):
Follow the signs for "Regional & InterCity Trains" within the airport terminal. The train station is located underground directly below the airport centre.
Lines: Take any train labelled S2, S16, S24, IC, or IR heading towards "Zürich HB".
Frequency: Every 5–10 minutes.
Duration: Approx. 10–12 minutes.
Tickets: You need a ticket for 3 Zones (Zones 110, 121). You can buy them at the SBB ticket machines or via the SBB Mobile App.
By Tram (The scenic route): Take Tram No. 10 (direction Zürich, Bahnhofplatz/HB) from the airport tram stop.
 Duration: Approx. 35 minutes.
Benefit: Good if you want to see a bit of the city suburbs, but much slower than the train.

From Basel EuroAirport (BSL) to Basel Main Station (SBB)

Please note: The EuroAirport does not have its own train station; you must take a shuttle
bus first.
By Bus & Train (Bus No. 50): Exit the airport on the Swiss side (Arrivals level).
Right outside the terminal, you will find the bus stop for Bus No. 50.
Route: Take Bus No. 50 directly to the final stop: "Basel, Bahnhof SBB" (the main station).
Frequency: Every 7–15 minutes.
Duration: Approx. 15–20 minutes.
Tickets: You can buy a ticket at the green "BVB/TNW" ticket machines at the bus stop.
Zürich: Train is fastest (10 mins). Tickets: SBB App or machine at the airport station.
Basel: Take Bus 50 to "Bahnhof SBB" (20 mins). Tickets: Machine at the airport bus stop.
Flights are usually cheaper.

Travel to Balgrist (Children’s Hospital): There are two main options from Zurich Main Station (Zürich HB):

By Tram: From the stops Zürich, Bahnhofstrasse/HB or Zürich, Central, take Tram 4 (direction Zürich, Rehalp) directly to the Balgrist stop.
By Train & Tram: From Zürich HB, take the S-Bahn (S3, S6, S12, or S16) to Stadelhofen. Change there and take either Tram 4 (direction Zürich, Rehalp) or the Forchbahn (S18) to the Balgrist stop.

Hotels

Discounted hotel rooms are limited as this congress is organized independently. Interested parties are responsible for their own bookings. Check for "discount code"  as AEPC partcipitans.

Here are a few hotels that are relatively well-located:

Oldtown Hostel Otter
Very conveniently located, just a 5-minute walk from Stadelhofen station (no extra transfer needed to reach Balgrist).
easyHotel Zürich City Centre
About a 10-minute walk from the Main Station (HB).
easyHotel Zürich Main Station
Only a 5-minute walk from the Main Station (HB).
ibis Budget Zurich City West
Approx. 10-minute walk to Hardbrücke station. From there, take the S16 to Stadelhofen, then change to Tram 4 or the Forchbahn to Balgrist.
Zurich Youth Hostel
A bit more effort via public transport as it is on the other side of the lake, but still a viable option.
